OPOTY is an outdoor photo competition that bears a price for winners in all categories of the competition, and the grand prize for the winner of a particular category known as the Outdoor Photographer of the Year category. The Outdoor Photography has a magazine which is one of the world’s leading photography magazines dedicated to landscape, wildlife, nature and adventure. Every single edition is packed full of unlimited techniques, features, creative insight from experts, equipment reviews and plenty of inspiring images.
The magazine has readers and subscribers worldwide, and the event is sponsored by FJÄLLRÄVEN. Ever since FJÄLLRÄVEN was founded 50 years back, it has made it a point of duty to develop products that make it stress-free for people to enjoy the countryside.
This event is open to readers of Outdoor Photography in and out of the UK, as well as members of the general public. Promoters, sponsors, and their families are, however, not eligible to be a part of this competition. Amateur, student and professional photographers who reside in and out of the UK are also eligible to enter, their ages notwithstanding. However, entrants below 18 years of age are mandated to obtain parents/guardians permission to enter. This set can only enter Young Outdoor Photographer of the Year, and the Promoter has the right to request proof of this permission.
There are a number of categories for entrants to compete in. They include; Outdoor Photographer of the Year, Light On The Land, Wildlife Insight, Live The Adventure, At The Water’s Edge, Small World, Spirit Of Travel, Under Exposed, and Young Outdoor Photographer of the Year. No separate entries are required to compete in the Outdoor Photographer of the Year category. But then, the winner of that category will emerge as the best single image from all the category winners except the Young Outdoor Photographer of the Year category, as decided by the judges.
Only entries sent and uploaded as JPEG are acceptable on the competition website; www.opoty.co.uk. Gaining entry into the competition requires a £8 fee to get into each category of the Outdoor Photographer of the Year. But the Young Outdoor Photographer of the Year category has no entry fee. It is allowed to enter up to 8 images or even more per category, meaning you can join multiple categories. All you need do is pay fees for each category. The said fee is payable on the OPOTY website via PayPal. Details of the organizers are available on the website for those who want to pay on the OPOTY website to contact and be guided on how to go about making payment.
